Abstract
Publishing in academia is a difficult, lengthy, and competitive process, with mastery of English increasingly a necessity (Strauss & Manolo 2023). Non-native speakers must expend more effort and yet are more likely than native English speakers to have their work rejected (Amano et al. 2023, Alkaabi et al. 2025). It is my aim to bridge this gap by offering my services as a translator, proofreader, and editor with a specific focus on the scientific publishing process. In a first step, I will introduce my qualifications and general approach. Next, the data section lists the institutions (N=51) and journals (N=38) with which I have worked over the last decade or so. The methods chapter focuses on pricing and other organisational aspects. Contact information can be found below and throughout the website. Finally, the references section offers recommendations.

Why should academic writers use professional editing services?

1. Introduction
I have spent over a decade working as the bamberg translation co. (tbtc), with a focus on academic proofreading and editing, alongside traditional translation: My fields of specialization are sociology, education, health, and economics. As a dual British and German citizen with a degree and a translator's diploma in English and German, I have a uniquely nuanced grasp of both languages. As an experienced teacher of English for academic purposes, moreover, I know exactly what to suggest to improve my clients' writing, especially if they are not native speakers themselves. This combination of skills has proven invaluable to hundreds of published authors (N=342), as the data presented in the following section will demonstrate.

2. Data
I have translated and edited the writing of hundreds of authors (N=342), who work for some of Germany's and Europe's most renowned universities and research institutions (N=51, see Fig. 2 above). Many of my clients have collaborated with me their entire academic careers, from their master's thesis to their first professorship and beyond. They publish in their fields' most prestigious journals (N=38, see Fig. 4 below): Consequently, I understand the formal and organisational requirements of scientific writing perfectly, accurately applying every journal's or publisher's preferences and requirements. Equally, my deep understanding of the material content of my clients' research means that my editing services are more accurate – and potentially more ethical – than AI assistants (Chemaya & Martin 2024): I can grasp and finesse theoretical arguments and check the validity of statistical claims, not as a one-off editing service, but accompanying an entire research project.
3. Methods
Services, Prices and Quotes
For the most part, language editing is charged by the word or standard page: The first step will usually be to provide your institution with a binding price quote (prices per word start at €0.04, or considerably less for longer texts, see Table 1). Then, a communicative process of corrections and suggestions begins; my work is always individually tailored to your requirements. Any subsequent questions you may have about the changes I suggest are included in the original price, as is new material deriving from those questions. Equally, many of my repeat clients have a open account to which recurring items such as revisions can be added as necessary – this is helpful when working to a deadline or for teams publishing multiple papers as part of a larger research project. Further services include literature checks, language coaching for live speaking, and editing academic staples such as websites, CVs, reviewer letters, and conference material.

This final section provides testimonials from some of my most distinguished and prolific clients, telling you in their own words what makes my work so special.

Beginning in 2013, Will has edited almost all my publications. This has not only improved my scientific output considerably, but has been cost-effective, interesting – and a pleasure, too!

I'm always thrilled with the rhetorical elegance Will's work lends to my texts. Any corrections are explained in detail, so that even a reasonably experienced writer of academic publications can always learn something new.
Will's attention to detail and understanding of my research, theoretical focus, and personal writing style has contributed to countless papers and publications.
At every stage of the writing and revision process, Will always responds quickly and helpfully to requests for even small changes, thanks to his in-depth knowledge of the field and my research in particular.
